Just had a glimpse of this video featuring actress Kalki Koechlin and VJ Juhi Pandey. These guys have done an incredible job exploring the outlook of people towards a rape victim in our society. While the video is going viral. let's just digress our focus from the video towards the society, it's outlooks and towards the rape victim.

Our's is a patriarchal society. Every society defines certain norms of living and our norms are defined by our patriarchs. If I were a father of a young, ambitious woman professional, I would have defined rules for her to follow to protect her from the evil world. But if I as a father confine her in my age old cliche cocoon then I am at fault. Remember your daughter is an individual with certain aspirations. She will value and respect your trust more if she is allowed to act as per her aspirations. Her boyfriends, her late working hours, her dressing style are her own choices and you ought to respect them just as she respects yours. I am not telling you to stop being a dotting father. I am just telling you to be more accommodating at the same time. She will love it!

Now let's walk in a victim's shoes for a while. "it's your fault!" "You should understand that you are a woman." "You cant wear that dress tonight! It's too provocative." My fault is that I follow illogical conventional rules blindly without using my so called vital organ - my brain! Infact I am a woman so according to my society's logic I dont possess this vital organ called brain. And this explains the occurrence of such crimes and exploitation of women in my society. The logic is simple- I dont have the ability to follow the rules of my perfect society cause according to my society I dont have that perfect brain. Bravo! Millions of rape, domestic violence and exploitation cases solved in a wink of an eye.

Our society never blames the exploiters, rather it acts as an accomplice. The Godman uses 'Bhaiya theory' to abscond and the juvenile uses his age to abscond. We all are absconding at our individual level by ignoring what is happening to the nation. Once in a while, let's just stop the blame game and educate ourselves that women are not inanimates. They are created to restore balance. Accepting them as they are is all we need to do. 

An Outcry!

* Protests go viral nationwide, unstoppable public outpouring. Is this a youth awakening?

This 'Times of India' latest update upsurges a feeling of 'hell yeah!!!' in me. The so called youth awakening, the rage, the protests and everything that is against the brutality of the heinous crime is undoubtedly satisfying my nerves. Everything seems just so justified, so fallen in place as the anger of the nation was needed long ago. And so was the provocation.

Every second day we the UNITED nation, the YOUTH turn a deaf ear to the traumatic cacophony of crime. We dismiss the reports of injustice by tagging it all with a lifestyle change, a paradigm shift. Ask yourself, Did it really bother u when u'd see a daily filled with reports of murder, robbery, rape or suicide? Did u ever step out of your cocoon to bring sanity to your society? Today, India not just lost a victim, but she lost her integrity. And the nation would be rapped every now and then if we continue to remain indifferent. 

Stop yourself people, from disrespecting your society. Revolt, not just for rape but for even an iota of inhumaness. Safeguard, not just rights of women, but rights of the mankind. Cleansing the filth of your surroundings wont really help. Rather, cleansing your mindset would. 

Afterall species face extinction when it fails to work for itself. Henceforth, humans would face extintion when they fail to be human. 

Womanhood

An eminent feminist ironically stated that if women demand equality, they should be treated equal in every whit of life.Women should be subjected to same conditions as men are subjected to. Be it govt tax or a compartment in a local train. What is the need for an exemption or a separate compartment?

Being a woman I agree that if we ourselves expose our weakness, our desire to be safe in the eyes of the ruthless world we would never achieve d goals of feminism. But being a human a small scared voice prods me to show my hidden vulnerability. And so echoes the voice of womanhood. it echoes in the hollow of ignorance.

Women have split personalities. When their one part loves to nurture the other one yearns to lean. So even if she finds contentment in an unromantic lover, she still loves dose small courtesies he offers occasionally.

We dont need reservations. We dont need any privilege at work place. All we need is the acceptance of our split persona.

 I just came across dis epigram while randomly stalking this social giant. Perhaps it underlines the reason behind my discord with a rational mind.

The death of Bin Laden has made the world victorious and more importantly given the much needed contentment. I congratulate one and all for this contentment which came after a decade of injustice.

But the point here is simple. Now that we have achieved a fair play, we dont realize that we bred hatred for a long period. It will ultimately breach our own lives. 

Once in a while people lets just learn to forgive. It's not a cake walk but there is no harm in trying...

Let the Peace prevail..... 

String of Love

The other day my nine year old sister gave me a list of things to shop from the market. Her list is always sweet and fun. There are a few pencils, crayons, gift wraps and all good and uncomplicated stuff. But this time she mentioned a 'string of love' in her list. When asked she innocently replied that string of love is a Rakhi she has to offer to the soldiers who protect our nation from the bad enemies. My heart skipped a beat when I heard her words. I never expected my angel to be so thoughtful at such a tender age.

In this hodge- podge of life have we ever thought of the people who are miles away from their beloved ones, surrendering their ease and striving each and every moment for the patronage of their motherland? It takes a lot of plucks to live for your brethren and everybody cannot have such composure. What we as commoners can have is some generosity to show our gratitude to the custodians of nation. Imagine if every single one of us makes an effort to bring a smile to the face of our  brave guardians, how contented could they feel!  Simultaneously how connected could we feel!

We are one nation and not a compartmentalized body of civilians and protectors.

Halla Bol!

The recently aired episode of Satyameva Jayate evoked virtues of anger and guilt within me.  Anger was expectedly for the sytem and guilt was unexectdely against my own conscience. It's ironical how the nation confides in medical professionals who do not hail the sole meaning of being viable. At the same time it chooses to be an accomplice by condemning the system for its incongruence and inhumanity. The facts and figures are alarming. Spending just 1.4% of its GDP on medicine India confidently vouches for the league of prosperous countries. In the 65th year of freedom 65% of the population still does not have access to the basic medical amenities. Donation fee for a MBBS seat is whopping 60 lakhs! Out of everything,  corruption leaps into the most nobel profession and the nation helplessly admits the crime. 

This has to go somewhere down the drain. This nation of Gandhi, Bhajat and Nehru has to tear apart its slumber.The commoners can easily prevent the exploitaion. The RTI, MCI and the NGOs can help. Public Private patenership can overcome the initial deference. Medicine is a revered profession. Let the practitioners maintain the sanctity of the power they have. And let we, the nation be the change the system needs.
